I picked up a 7d and alot of loot....

So anyway I was browsing kijijiji just for the hell of it and came across a guy selling a 7d, with battery grip ( canon brand) 2 battery's, 2 high speed CF cards, 50mm 1.8, 28-135mm lens, tripod, and camera backpack. I emailed him and told him I would give him $1500 while I ended up getting everything for $1650 and the camera shutter count is only 2732.

I have used it the last 3 days and it works perfectly I picked up the 400 5.6 for BIF and as my long range tripod lens.

I am keeping my trusty K5 though since I like to shoot in the rain and its better for hiking. Also from my tests the K5 blows away the 7D in noise performance.

I guess the guy just needed money.

It is weather sealed but apparently not as well as K-5/7 bodies..
Anyway, nice find and enjoy it.
Since you now have both, how do you think the AF compares on those two bodies?

THAT I'm jealous of.
From what I read and see about it, the 400 5.6 has good focal length, good performance, good price. I wish Pentax had a new lens like that.

I kind of like it but I also still love my k5 but the af on the canon is night and days better the my k5. Even the full auto mode seems to no what you want to focus on 85% of the time. The best part though is how can customize the af system I have also change my af focus from shutter to another button. So if I hold it it will keep tracking and if the bird for Example stops I just have to let go and it lock focus. So your always ready for action.

and the smaller sensor makes the 400mm also much longer then our 300mm on K-5. Good catch.

Thabks for the assurance
I had 7D and I picked it over K-5...traded it since for 1D3 but I do miss some features of 7D...just shame the sensor isn't bit better..

I really don't see the fuss about the 7D sensor. Sure it isn't as good as the K-5s but I have made large prints from ISO 1600 that look perfect. Maybe my needs aren't as high as others'.

I had one with a pair of lenses the 17-50 USM 2.8 and a 18-270 tamrom super zoom.

Image quality was close to the K5, certainly fine for most things but it does lack in dynamic range and iso vs the k5. It's a very fast camera in operation with good processor speed (much faster than K5). It also blow the k5 away for autofocus, but only with fast lenses. It's weather sealed (body) but not quite as well as the k5. You also have to invest a LOT in L glass to get sealed lenses to go with it. Thats why I went to Pentax and stayed. The DA* lenses at the time were far more reasonable for weather sealing (I took it to Afghanistan).

Pentax interface imo is more organic to use then Canons. I just find it "makes sense" and I'm not really looking at the camera much in use vs the Canon which I never really warmed to. I prefer Nikon over Canon for the same reason.

You did get an excellent deal on a great camera. I sold mine for only 100 dollars less than I paid during the tsunami crisis when Canon was shut down. So I got to "rent" a 7D for 6 months with almost no loss. Same for the lenses at the time.
