Our area has become so verdant in the past few weeks that we've been getting more grackles than squirrels lately - I won't purchase any more feed until autumn once the current supply is gone. This character spent more time looking around than eating - the feeder is more than five feet off the ground, and only the metal pole provides access, so safety shouldn't be an issue, and the trees provide a better view, so I certainly don't understand.

Glad I don't like there. I like my warm weather too much to live in the cold regions anymore.

we used to get our first snow in October/November and our last in april/may
now we are lucky to get one decent snow a year

now I varnish and wax my snowshoes to keep them pretty instead keeping them from becoming soggy and saggy

This year we had more like 11 months of summer. We had only about two to three weeks winter weather and it only got down to the mid 30s F. Usually, we have the month of November for cold, then again in February but after that it starts to warm up again. I do have to say that living in a warm climate with no air conditioning, it gets a bit too warm here especially in July and August but I still wouldn't trade this place for 8ft of snow most winter months in Minnesota. I spent four years there.

I started posting in here a year ago because this being the best place to post my squirrel shots. This thread gets more action and positive comments than PYP. Rupert's posts of Otis and family is great. The stories he tells with each of his shots just amaze me how he comes up with some of these. Rupert as a person is what we call "a good one to ride the river with" and I miss him being here.

Just noticed your post as I was trying to catch up around here....Just want to thank you for the kind words Photolady, they are deeply appreciated. This is a fun thread and I am a fun lover......what everyone contributes here is what makes it so unique and friendly...and fun! You are an avid poster here and one of the main reasons this thread thrives...we all appreciate you so much! In particular Otis and his entire Army of Squirrels!

His foot is injured, and he can't get up the tree. Trying to give him a safe place while he recovers. He's kind of scared and doesn't want to eat. I've had to give him peanut butter and water from a syringe the past two days. He has a buffet of cracked corn, peanuts, apples, and peanut butter in his cage. Hopefully, he will start eating on his own soon. As soon as he can get up a tree, I'll set him free in a cat-free zone.

Tina, wonderful story and such a caring one for the little critter. Otis says he is so proud of you and honors you with his highest and most prestigious award. He wanted to give a speech for your benefit but it was 22 pages long, so I shortened it for him! Thank me!

He said you can share this with Terry...as long as he helps you in caring for the little fellow! Congratulations, few get this award!



Back from our vacation...it was fun! Won't bother you all with it here, but these are a few of the shots Mrs Rupert took with the Fuji Toy Camera X20 along the way. Didn't see a single squirrel out that way in far SW Texas...two Chipmunks but they refused to pose.

Otis seemed to weather my absence well...said he didn't even know I was gone?


This Mama Squirrel said she slept through the whole week, so didn't miss me at all....


My helper kept them fed well and with plenty of fresh water.....that's all a squirrel really needs anyhow! Sap...of course they always want more sap!
