The best and worse thing about going fullframe...

Both the best thing and the worse thing is having to buy new lenses! I've loved doing the research and then hunting them down, loved getting the mail packages and trying the new lens out and learning how they work and what images they produce. Worse thing - wallet damage! I've spent $4k on the jump, pretty happy though, the image quality is brilliant, all are prime like even the zooms. The primes are sharp wide open and the 100mm f2.0 is a thing of beauty! The 70-200 f2.8 L is a behemoth but the image quality is out of this world!

Anyone see any gaps?

Congrats on the new gear. Well, it sounds like you got it all in a short period of time? That might account for the ouch factor.

There are always gaps, no matter how many lenses we own. Since you now have a Canon FF and a Pentax, you have 2 sets of gaps. Do you have a high quality pocket camera? That's another gap. It never ends....

I have a used 5D and new 70D. Got the 5D mainly to have another option with the 17mm TSE. Choosing lenses is a bit of a double challenge. I have the cheap 50 f1.8 (portraits on 70D, normal on 5D) and 28 f2.8 IS (moderate wide on 5D, normalish on 70D), and the Tamron 150-600 (which got me into Canon). All since February. Trying not to go hog-wild as I still have a lot of good Pentax.

Good luck.

I do, a Sony HX20V and it is starting to play up, making some funny noises inside whilst focusing. Still does the job for me though.

Tuco, yeah all in the space of a month. Think I'm pretty right now though. Have been eyeing off the 300/4L IS though - But then I could buy a 70D with the 70-200 on it and get the same results for the same money. So many options in Canon land!

On my FF I also have a 70-200/2.8. I don't use that lens for walking around at all. It is mostly an event and action lens. Otherwise, I typically carry around a combination of 3 lenses from the following focal lengths: 21/2.8, 28/1.8, 35/1.8, 58/1.4 and 85/1.8.

The worst is that your long lenses aren't so long anymore. It takes 450mm to frame what the 300 did before.

True but I don't do a lot of long lens work either. And I can put the camera in a 1.2 and 1.5 crop factor mode if needed.

I'd add the 40mm pancake for when you want to go lighter. It is a fine lens. I'd also get something wide like the new f4 Canon zoom. I found a Tamron 17-35mm f2.8/3.5 for $350 that's light (plasticky) but very decent optically.

The 300mm f4 is an average lens. I'd recommend either the 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 or the Tamron 150-600mm.

I would wonder if teleconverters would be more 'forgiving' on a FF as well. Bigger frame, the 'smaller' any imperfections would be caused by them, thus making them more of an option than on a cropped camera.

Unless, of course, it is the elegantly compact and lightweight optic it takes to get the job done. Almost all my FF glass falls into that category. What is grotesque is the extra bulk typical of cropped-frame wide-angle lenses. The laws of physics are not very kind on that end of things either.

Not particularly, the Sigma 17-70 OS HSM lens is roughly the same practical dimensions to the 24-105 IS USM lens, only difference being the loss of one stop at wide end in the canon. Unless you are talking about comparing to 'Q' system lenses, in which case I don't feel the Q system achieves what I want in a camera. Fine camera system it is, just doesn't tick my boxes. When my Sony finally gives it up I'll probably get a Q7 just for the image quality in a tiny package.

So what is the lineup there? I see 50mm, 35mm, 100mm, 70-200. Is the other lens the 24-105?

A wide seems to be missing. A teleconverter would also probably go nicely in the camera bag with the 70-200, just in case.

Patiently waiting on a 20/2.8 to become available at a decent price.
