Nikon D7200+ Sigma 150-600 S vs Pentax DFA 150-450

If anyone has the D7200 & Sigma sport 150-600 would like to see a comparison at 450mm to the new Pentax DFA 150-450.
I know its a stop slower(Sigma) but am curious about IQ & contrast.Since the D7200 has the same sensor as K3/K3II it should be a fair comparsion.
Where I am I can get the D7200 & Sport for about $200 more than just the Pentax lens, maybe others are curious as well

Cheers S

Just for info, LensTip have done reviews of both the Sport and Contemporary 150-600's [tested on Canon].

Resolution at 450mm and above seems OK for both. I suspect the Pentax 150-450 will do better at the long end.

LensTip have also tested the Tamron 150-600. Not much different performance from either of the Sigma's.

Hi--if its what I read the Sigma sport is much sharper than the C or Tamron at 600mm,reaching 38 lpm on the MTF charts, which is very good
Just would like to compare to the Pentax @450 ,even though Sigma is 6.3 vs 5.6

6.3 vs 5.6 is a pretty small difference.

450 to 600 is a slightly less small difference.

Generally when you're at 450 you really want to be at 800, or at least that's what I find most of the time. The Pentax at 450 + slight crop would be hard pressed to beat the Sigma at 600mm.

Not at all.
The Sigma isn't available on K-mount, after all. No contest ...

Plus the results of using the Pentax HD 1.4TC on the DFA 150-450 (ie at 210-630mm) look pretty good, from the sample images others have posted.

Sacrilege here, I know, but I bought a Nikon body to avoid the DA560.

I've also just bought the D750 and I'm still trying to decide which long tele zoom to get. Making do at the moment with the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 and the 1.7 TC. Very happy with the Nikon AF capabilities
The Sigma 150-600 Sport seems a viable option, maybe better than the Nikon 80-400 also in many respects other than reach.

Wrote to SRS and Pentax Paris shop for a quote for a part exchange and either the DFA150-450, or the DA560. No answer from both. So in the meantime I visited my local dealer (they are not selling Pentax), we could discuss relative quality between Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Tamron regarding supertele options that they had on display. There was a Tamron 150-600 second hand at 800 euros, Nikon Mount and a Nikon 7100 second hand at 480 euros. But basically, according to the vendor, the DFA 150-450, Sigma 150-600 Sport version and Canon 100-400 new version are very very good. According to him the Tamron 150-600 and Sigma 150-600 Contemporary do not deliver great IQ in the long end. Also stating that DFA 150-450 and Sigma 150-600 do not reach the IQ level of Canon and Nikon primes. According to the sales man, the Sigma 150-600 sport is the only product that can provide very good image quality up to 600mm , for about 2000 euros. And in fact , if you look at the construction, this opinion is believable. I questioned him whether it would be better to stick with Pentax DFA 150-450 or buy a Tamron 150-600+Nikon body , and interestingly he recommended to stay with the Pentax solution, but emphasized that the Sigma 150-600 Sport (not the contemporary version) is really really good.
That's what I was trying to say..the Sigma Sport is very good!! but heavy at 3kg,which makes the 150-450 maybe better for BIF handheld (2kg like the Tamron & Sigma C) ,only will never be available for Pentax..or?? but the D7200 has same IQ & better AF so for me the Sport on the Nikon is like what it could be on the Pentax
In fact we a re lucky to have so many choices of good glass these days at reasonable prices...

What Pentax bodies do you have? I was very, very impressed with the Nikon AF, but I came from the K-5... which had many strengths, but long-lens AF wasn't one of them.

I still have a large amount of Pentax gear but it's waiting for a FF with great AF and a great K-mount telephoto to go with it.

Right now my longest Nikon hand-holdable lens is the 70-200 as well. I have the 1.4 and the 2.0 TC's but haven't really used the T/C's much. If the 150-600 really is that good I might have to try it.

I've got the K-5 and K-7, the latter of which I haven't used for maybe 3 to 4 years. My daughter has it for her hopefully growing photographic interests. The AF is what I've been most frustrated with in the K-5. Now with the D750 AF and just one match worth of experience, it feels much better. Next match tomorrow, which I'm really looking forward to.

Over in canon land I see guys using the 2x and 70-200 all the time. it seems to be a workable arrangement, and at 400mm ƒ5.6 just isn't as bad as it sounds. The long focal length gets you good subject isolation. I'm guessing the 750 AF would be to die for in Pentax land. Although I'd love to see the Pentax FF, K-3ii and the Pentax 70-200 before I make a final determination. But heck, if you've already got a 750, 150-600 sounds like the way to go. My guess is you aren't going to match the AF on a 750 on any APS-c or Pentax FF anytime soon if that's a big issue.

Given that I function pretty good with MF, I just don't count AF as critical, nice to have for sure, but not critical.

The results seem pretty decent with the DA 560. It is pretty expensive, but lighter than a lot of the other options out there and pretty usable wide open.

I don't think it's light for what it is (F/5.6), it certainly isn't airline friendly or hand-hold-friendly (too long), it was expensive, ridiculously so when I was in the market for a long lens, and although it might be usable wide open, so is the Sigma 500mm F/4.5, and the MFD is way too long, and as wide as it gets (only F/5.6) it still vignettes quite a bit on full frame.

No doubt photographers could use it to make great photos. But, for what I wanted, it checked basically none of the boxes.

The value of the DA560 is questionable, compared to a 400 f5.6 (420 f5.6), it is no brighter, costs and weights 3 times more, and is twice longer than a 300 f4 + 1.4 TC / 70-200 + 2xTC combo.
With a good 400m prime with a bit better approaching conditions/skill, perhaps the result is equivalent to using a DA560. Anyway, for birding in the wild without hiding/strategy you need 1200mm focal length...
The other risk that I can imagine regarding the DA560 is that there might be a DFA600 to go with the Pentax FF and complete the DFA lineup in a couple of years, thus making the DA560 irrelevant.

Sounds good. What sport is your 'match'?

I don't have a 750, that's the other poster. I'm considering a few different lenses. 400 f/5.6 has more subject isolation than 200 f/2.8 so that's not the problem, the problem is that using a 2x teleconverter doesn't help much over cropping, af speed suffers, etc.
