So remember the 101 that I said looked like it had fungus in the pic? It came in the mail today, and it does have fungus. The whole camera was in an old case that smelled of mold. So it is now all in a two gallon ziploc bag. While I dont have any personal experience with fungus...yet, I am going to take precautions and put all the camera gear away while working on this thing. Maybe I should just soak the whole camera in hydrogen peroxide for a few days. 😄

You could put a moth killing tablet in the bag with it, you can get these things you hang in a wardrobe to keep moth larva at bay. I seem to recall reading fungus no likee that stuff.

If the fungus has got in the prism its game over without a replacment prism.

If its a loss you could break the camera up for parts, the winder lever, self timer lever and battery cap would get around 5-9 each. They take some time to sell on eBay but they do go eventually.

The plastic tipped winders get broken quite easily and the self time lever is prone to dropping off as well. Battery caps get destroyed when people leave batteries in them till they leak so those parts always sell through.

If its any consolation I have just had to cough up £60 to have an X700 fixed and calibrated after its shutter derailed and I had to abandon the attempted repair when it got too scary.

Today was the day of reckoning - all the eBay stuff turned up pretty much in one hit -

I thank thats me done - most of this is being sold off once its been film tested, checked and repaired because I just have too much stuff. I lodged a case with other half to keep a silver X-500 as its a completely minty early model but I got 'the look' so thats that. I am having a bit if a cull anyway of the collection and restructuring a bit and am seriously considering selling my K1000 - it makes me feel like an eBay shyster but people are paying incredible cash for these and frankly I dont much like shooting with the K1000. It feels clunky, and generally unpleasant to work with so I may as well cash in.

Might buy myself a nice XE with the proceeds

Yeah, happens

Some time ago I had bought a mint-condition X-500 with MD 50/1.7 on a flea market for $25 eq. I mean really mint; even the original soft case was intact (and they often come in very bad shape). Unfortunately, sometime later, being on the other side of my GAS I decided that I don't need it and I sold it. Soon I started regretting, I searched and found another one but not that mint anymore. And, much more expensive, of course. Life

Have any of you heard of a Minolta X-101 ?

I googled it and cannot come up with any info on it.

Here is a pic of the one that made me look for info. Not a great pic, but if you zoom in a little, and squint, it is X-101, not 370.

It's like one of those trick images that some people can see. I've never been able to see what was supposed to be in those myself!

Looks like the fungus was a non issue. The camera was coated in mildew, but with a good scrubbing came clean. Curtain is still a little musty to the nose but hopefully will go away with leaving the door open. Looks like it was serviced at one time. Last two pics are before shots.

I would give it a belt of UV either daylight for a few days or sat in a box with a UV lamp for 15 minutes a day for a couple of days to try for annihlation of any possible fungal spores.

Glad its survived though and come up nice. I have an SRT on delivery from eBay with a bent top cover, I already have a top cover spare from a train wreck of an SRT so as long as thats all thats wrong it will be happy days.

You need an MC 58mm f1.4 for an SRT, they look their best and prettiest with one of those
