Quite interesting, thanks! Since video on a DSLR is becoming a more and more significant thing, I wonder if the K mount can some day provide full video AF?

AF video recording ?

I think only Panasonic offers autofocus while shooting video using their GH1. Unless the new G2 has autofocus function in video mode ?

The video sites I read, most shooters do not want or need autofocus when in video mode.
I've never owned a video camera so I'm just watching whats happening.
I assume when I buy my next dslr it will have video too.
Especially if I wait till after Photokina Sept 2010, & wait till like Spring 2011 to buy my next dslr.

Rumors say 5D Mark II sees an early refresh at Photokina 2010 due to all the new videographer demand.
Canon even recognizes video guys in their CPS , professional services program now.
Canon found a themselves a niche, people who shoot broadcast TV.

The cinema industry doesn't seem to use AF when filming, and I imagine that's not for lack of technology but for better control. I certainly haven't missed it in my movies.

They have used the 5D Mark II to film quite a few things now actually, I think part of a recent movie (don't remember the name though) was filmed entirely with one. Must easier to use than those giant film cameras, as long as they don't get the jello effect with it.

Wow, I really like that show and had no idea they shot it with a DSLR. I wonder if we can push them over to pentax.

I would assume the new G series cameras both have AF in video as well. MY GF1 one does, and it is nice and quiet as well. The compact designs and non-screwdrive lenses make AF a viable option. I briefly tried out an oly e-pl1 a few weeks ago and that also does AF during video.

I read an interesting post on a Flickr group that I'm a member of today.

Flickr: Please wait...

You have to join the group to read it, but essentially (can't really paste it due to vulgar language) the 5D Mark II might be good for taking HD video, but when it comes to editing it, it's useless.
