Got Paul's T-mount adapter today. Fits perfectly, though it appears to be somewhat thicker than the Nikon one--that should make the lens focus even more closely, right? Hmm...

Most annoying thing is that I lost my tripod mounting bracket somewhere, so I can't really test it out yet.

Finally took it out shooting at the dog park on Monday evening, using the roof of my car as a tripod. The focusing range definitely doesn't go to infinity as-is, but it's still got quite a huge reach on it. Focusing is tough on the K20D viewfinder--was much easier on my MX when I mounted it on that. Results are pretty good for a lens like this. On static objects with text I can see that the sharpness is very good, but getting sharpness on non-static objects is quite difficult, especially if you want to shoot at low ISO. I'll post some pics soon.

Shots OF the lens (pre-service):

Shots WITH the lens (post-service):

So overall it's quite sharp given the vintage and the extreme nature of the design. Focus is extremely difficult on an APS-C viewfinder. CA can be bad at times.

Congratulations--that's great news! Looks to me you've come up roses on this one. If you know how to manage the fringing in pp, you're going to have a lot of fun with that lens.

Heh. Williams sticker on a Subaru - just like my wife's car. I'd love to see some reference shots on the close-ups (say, 200mm swapped in for same tripod shot).

Nice, sharp images and good rendition. It was a long road, but you got there. As time goes by you can "improve" the mount end until you have infinity focus!

Congrats.

Good news enjoy!!

Phil.

PS I also found a great K500 with an "actual" lens mount, so I'm happy as well.

Maybe we should start an Extreme Telephoto Club thread for lenses 500mm & above?

Phil,

Good to see you found a K 500/4.5 - I envy you that one. The 500 and longer club sounds like fun. It will be a pretty exclusive group. There can't be more than a half dozen lenses in that range. I won't be able to join but I'll watch with interest.

We could broaden the base of the club somewhat by allowing the use of a tc so, for example, photos shot with a 300mm & 1.7x tc would qualify?

I'd forgotten about this thread. 300mm club which covers the same territory..

So why not post your long lens info and shots there?

Because reinventing the wheel is always such fun?
Seriously, I'll do that, Peter--thanks!
