The previous poster was wrong

There are two versions of the Super-Takumar 1:4 / 150mm according to Gerjan van Oosten:

- Made from 1965-1967: 5 elements in 4 groups
- Made from 1967-1971: 5 elements in 5 groups (P/n 43741)

The first version is somewhat weak at full aperture. The two versions can be distinguished by the size of the rear element: the later version is bigger.

I don't have this lens (yet!) but I'd look at the product number engraved in the Auto/Manual switch. If there isn't any then I think it is the earlier version.

Of course there's also the S-M-C version. This has the same layout as the last Super-Takumar, but with S-M-C coating.

I think I have the earlier version - there is no part number on the A/M switch (it is A/M not AUTO/MAN like on the later versions). To be honest I am quite pleased with it, even fully open. I cannot find an example fully open, but this is at f11

How is it using the 150mm focal length on APS-C?

As many has said (warned) the 135mm is a bit weird to me, too short for a tele and too long for an ordinary walk-around-lens. If you feel the same about 135s, is the 150mm getting into the real tele territory, or does the same weirdness apply to the 150mm?

Acording to View all Takumar lens types
you have the second version "Model ll is slightly heavier (325g) than Model l (320g). Auto/manual lever marked either A/M or Auto/Man."

I have an Asahi lens hood that's missing the N in JAPAN. Missing the first character is a little odd. Some lenses had part or all of the name painted over or scratched out, most often in a way that looks more like vandalism than anything. Those may have been imported without being sold by the official local distributor, and had to be modified to clear customs. The long engraving might have been by a large institution or government, I've seen some nicely engraved non-original numbers.

I've never used my SMC version. It seemed like a great purchase idea but it's either too big a step from another lens or not enough.

I got the SMC version w/ part number 43742 etched on the Auto/Man switch. Got it in pristine condition complete with end/front caps for $43. I like its smooth focusing ability very much. Usable wide open.
