I recently got a program plus but didn't have a chance to test it yet as it has no batteries. I've read that this camera is essentially a paper weight without batteries.

What types of batteries can I try?

Silver button cells are best. SR44s, or Energizer 357s. I get them at Wal-mart, actually, and I'm pretty sure I saw them at K-mart recently, though I'm not sure of my memory on the latter: it wasn't why I was there. (They come in packs of three for some reason. Your camera will need two at a time. )

Once at least there were lithium cells made that'd probably work fine, too, (I'm pretty sure that's what we sold them with when they were new: there was even a battery that was the same as two of those button cells stacked on top of each other, ) but I haven't seen those in a long while.

Basically, just try to do better than alkalines: those'll get eaten pretty quick, and the voltage trails off partway through their life: still they'll do in a pinch.

Yep, SR44s or Energizer 357s, both silver oxide. Lowes carries 3-packs of the 357s for under $6 and you can get SR44s online for about a buck a battery if you look around. I just buy the 357s because they last a long time, several months, in my Super Program and ME Super.

I can't grasp that a camera designed to take a SR44 or a different camera takes a SR76, yet both are interchangeable with a 357.

SR44 = 357 = EPX76 = SR76 = numerous other designations
