Home made SLR

Hello guys and gals.
Has anyone seen this? I have always felt a big love for mechanical cameras. I even managed to repair a Zenit E camera and my ME Super.

But this guy is playing in a different league

Wow! And did you see that the next project is a rangefinder? Well, he already has the shutter mechanism, though coupled rangefinder cameras are pretty complex.

Wait until Tuco sees this. He is our resident DIY'er.

That is so cool. Having those machine tools and the experience to use them rocks.

Wow. That is really fantastic. Really gives you greater appreciation for what the engineers making all those cameras achieved.

What I thought was cool is that his shutter is based on the early Leica design with the rotating dial. So simple and so elegant! In many ways, he built a Zenit 1!

(Early FSU 35mm SLR based on the Zorki rangefinders which in turn were based on the Leica II and III cameras.)

bloody brilliant! considering all of the cameras around that can be had for next to nothing i can't imagine why someone would start from scratch.i guess from a machinist standpoint the challenge would be great if the ability is there.

Thanks for the link, Octav.

Yes, pretty amazing: talk about an all-metal body!

Just the other day, in view of the current prices, I was thinking that it could be much cheaper to build a DIY view camera (using wood and scrounged parts, like lenses, shutters etc), but this guy is in anther league altogether.

That's pretty amazing.
I built a few solidbody guitars when I was younger and it feels pretty awesome to play a guitar you made. I bet he really enjoys taking photos with that camera after all the hard work he put into it.
