Shutter doesn't operate

I have a Pentax Program Plus camera with a shutter that doesn't operate. In the display window, 1000 is displayed, indepedant of F stop selection or Manual/Automatic setting. Just replaced the batteries, didn't make a difference. Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm moving this to the film section. I'm a bit rusty with my Super A knowledge, but this sounds like an error message that otherwise means something in particular.

Hi,
I have the similar Super Program and might be of limited assistance. First off, here is a link to the manual:
Pentax Program A instruction manual, user manual, free PFD camera manuals
1000 will display after the film back is opened until the shutter has cycled a sufficient number of times to bring the frame counter to 0.

As to why the shutter won't operate, have you confirmed that the mode dial is not in the Lock position and that the batteries are inserted correctly? If so and the shutter still won't fire, it was suggested on an earlier thread that gently lifting the mirror up against its foam bumper with your finger tip and allowing it to fall back into place might reset the shutter mechanism. The trick did not work for the user on the earlier thread, so his camera went to Eric Hendrickson for service.

Thanks Steve,

Turns out, some of the foam had fallen off, leaving only the glue, which kept the mirror from falling down.

Well, that will do it...definitely...

Have fun replacing the foam and seals!
