I was chatting with someone in a camera store in Halifax the other day, and she mentioned that K1000s are really hard to come by. There's an arts college in town (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design) and they apparently won't let the students touch digital until second year. Most of them get a K1000, if they can find one. I certainly plan to hang onto my old classic, just in case I get the urge to shoot a little film! Hm, no wonder they're scarcer than hen's teeth...

It's definitely not something you want to sell!
I have two MX's with winders, the K1000 is just sort of there in case I need it. I have used them professionally for many years.

Never even got autofocus until I had to go digital with the *st D. Still use all my old favorite lenses!

I have a KM (K1000 on steroids?), bought my first KM in 1978 (I think) with a 55mm F1.8 lens, bought exactly the same after mine was stolen :-( when my house was burgled, currently hae it loaded with RealA.

My husband still has and uses the K1000 he got in 1983. Right now, it is the camera that goes around with him in the truck. He likes digital, but I can tell he still loves his K1000. Me, I've used his K1000 a couple of times, but training under him in only the last couple of years, you could say that all I know is digital.

24 years and counting...

Faith

Me too

I sill use mine that I bought in 1976, my first SLR. I was always hoping someone would develop a digital back for those old SLRs, they still take great pictures and are as reliable, well, more reliable then anything else I can think of.

The K1000 was my first SLR. Bought it gently used in 1981 and it's still working. I worked for a newspaper and I was able to process my own shots in their "darkroom". All I had to pay for was photo paper. The start of a life-long hobby (so far, anyway).

k1000

I've had mine since about 1980 still works great! the mamiya tlr I had got to be too cumbersome (I did love those big negs to print though) My first slr was a minolta SRT100 I got for christmas in 1973 (I was 16), it was very similar to the k1000 and had a neat little button under the lens for DOF preview.

I have the Vivitar clone, V4000s. Found it at a garage sale with a nice little 35-70 zoom with a 1:1.5 "macro" built it. Works perfectly. Shoot B&W with it.

Ah the K1000, I remember it well ( and with a tear!) The K was my first 'real' SLR and my second Pentax, after a P&S that was a lot of fun to use.

Alas, being a starving musican/artist, I had to sell it five years ago to pay rent. I think its time to prowl Ebay!!

Had 2

I had two K1000s and a KX, I still have the KX and a broken K1000 (finally died after 23 years of hard use). Loved that old brute.

On your KX, does the hotshoe have black, spring-loaded "pins"? I just became the proud owner of a KX that came with a really nice SMC-M f1.7. I can't get a flash past the pins to test the hotshoe, and the manual I downloaded does not mention them.

I have not taken any photos with the KX yet, but I already love the feel of it and the match the needles exposure. I was going to sell the body since I bought it for the lens, but now I think I'm going to keep it. It looks so nice next to my ME Super SE and K100D.

I do

Still use it sometimes, but mine is quite unreliable(light meter only works half the time, and the shutter locked up on me the last time I used it). My dad also has two of them, and my sister has one.
