so i just got in a k1000 for x-mass my mother in law found it in her basement and it is pretty beat up. the foam seal is mush and there is a big dust spot on the prizum so here is my ? does any one know where i can get a new foam seal for the film door and can i clean the prizim my self and is it hard to get to the inner area to clean the prizim? or should i just fabricate a new foam seal. and just look around the dust spot.

For the seals, Jon Goodman (interslice on eBay) is the best. The kit includes pre-cut pieces and full instructions:

As far as cleaning the focus screen, use extreme care. The screen is fragile and very easily scratched. It is made of a plastic material and can be damaged by solvents and cleaners. Incidental dust can be blown off with a "rocket" blower. Gooey residue from a rotten mirror bumper flung onto the screen will probably require attention from a professional using cleaners that are safe for the screen. Basic cleaning (including the screen) and replacement of seals usually runs about $39-$49 USD.

Removal of the focus screen requires partial disassembly of the camera. It was not designed to be user replaceable.

First, scrape as much off as a possible with some softish, like a toothpick.

FIRST keep in mind that patience and gentleness are the 2 most important things

Read the primer first and then you can start getting rid of the goo which is faster and easier than you may think.

Then read this instructions which are very similar to the K1000 and should be use as guide

Lighter fluid is the solvent of choice, together with paper towel bits, bamboo skewer or tooth pick or the tool Goodman sends with his kits. Xacto knife, with care, on the mirror foam. As per advice above, read the instructions carefully, it's not difficult but the precautions are good to take.
