Pentax 110 in '79

This three page ad was repeated a few times during '79, sometimes without the photo of the lady... sometimes only page 3. This was the first occurrance as far as I can tell, in February 1979

Interestingly, in '79 Pentax bought the inside cover spread more months than not in Pop Photo, and often had 2-3 pages additionally in the magazine for other cameras. The MX and ME each got a bunch, and they really pushed the MV in the second half of the year. I'll post the ads soon.

So sad they never do it now.
It could tremendously boost their sales.
I wonder whatever happened to their marketing skills or advertising savvy???

It may well be pricing power vs. sales volume -- Looking at it one way, Pentax did beat Konica, Minolta, Yashica, Fujica, and others in the extreme market competition of the electronic era, without the pricing power of market leaders Nikon and Canon. My suspicion is that margins went way down and investment in electronics and digital went way up, which squeezed out many manufacturers.

But yes, it is sad, so many innovative makes are gone, and some that remain (Pentax and Olympus, chiefly) don't have the market positions they once enjoyed. When I post the MX ad, it's interesting to see Pentax list their 'firsts'...
