Oh contrare! The black bodied K2 is in perfect working condition.
Last April I had Eric H. CLA and install new light seals in the black K2.
And Eric installed the micro-prism dot focus screen from the brown K2 in it.
I have to send my K2 to Eric too as he was the one who restored my original AP to full operational status.

And with the LX, they only made it in black. I certainly would have liked to have a chrome version too!
Actually they did make a retail Chrome version of the LX for the year 2000 anniversary edition!

I might as well opt for the Gold Plated version although the Titanium is probably fantastic too

Who else here is old enough to remember when they used to charge ten bucks more for the "professional" black finish?

Black paint is delicate and mars easily from normal use.
I prefer chrome cameras - they stay newer looking longer.

Chris
Heehee. I certainly do. There was a certain stigma to chrome cameras on some jobs: they do wear like iron, but they're a) a touch heavier, (if they're old, with real metal in the finish) and b) seem to draw the attention more.
People's reactions have kind of changed since then, though.

Personally I prefer black, and I really don't mind seeing some brass. Shows you, or at least the camera, have been around the block a few times.

Which model is the one on the right in the middle, with the all-silver wind lever?

In front of the KX would be the K2.

Okay, thanks. The silver circle threw me off because my K2 is the black DMD. Your collection is very nice.

I watched a black AP in very good shape with a 58/2.4 go for around $540 about 3 weeks ago. I put in a bid but lost.

Why do I even look when this thread comes up? All it does is make me want a black SPII, sigh. You all are a bunch of terrible enablers you know that? I have the nicest FRI. I really don't need a black SPII, but every time I see this thread I get thinking how nice one would look on the shelf with Queenie. It's just some black paint, darn it!!!!!

black enameled brass or black lacquered brass sounds better.
