Thanks. Nope, it was not developed in a special way. It was a normal development time. With the low DR of the scene's recordable texture, I'd say it would look about the same with a host of other developers.
I stock 3 developer for use. PMK Pyro, Rodinal and HC-110. All have years for a shelf life and can be used in a one-shot capacity. That is the primary reason for my choice in these developers today.
But my initial interest in PMK Pyro years ago was that you could selectively burn and dodge highlights and shadows on variable grade paper using filters on the enlarger instead of the adding and blocking of light the in more conventional way due to its staining properties. That gave finer control of small areas. But today, with a figital work flow, you can do all that in an image editor to a really fine degree with any developer and film.
I meter mostly with a one-degree spot meter. I pick what the middle gray will be in the scene. I often know in advance of taking the picture how many stops the other values in the scene fall relative to that. So when I have large areas that are all black or all white, it is a conscious choice I made instead of a surprise as in, oh, that's how it turned out when you pull the negatives out of the development tank.
