A fifty-buck scanner is worth every centavo, maybe less. That means, it sucks. Avoid it.

I bought one, it sucked. Don't do it. Spend the extra money and get a flatbed scanner that has film scanning capabilities/holders. I bought a refurbished Epson Perfection 4490 for $125 shipped and I've scanned hundreds and hundreds of 35mm negatives, 35mm slides and 120 film, it's been great for the price paid.

@pentaxk1000denver: Thanks, I like your scanned photos. I am going to order either 4490 or V500.

If you're looking for a $50 scanner, I'd recommended picking from the best of the used Canoscan 8400F lots on eBay. I bought one new quite a few years ago and it is still quite nice. That said, if I were buying today I'd totally spend the extra bucks for a new flatbed with film scan capabilities.
