I took the zx-5 out for a walk today

Hello everyone. I just wanted to let you all know I posted some pictures in the photo gallery from a walk to took today using the ZX-5 camera I bought for my son for Christmas. All in all I will say that it is a nice little camera. I will for sure have to remember to keep the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters handy. The one thing I didn't care for and I don't know if there is a way around it is the film advance seemed to scare off the deer after my first shot.

Yes, the ZX-5 has a rather loud film advance. Aside from insulating the body, I don't think there is anything you can do.

You could take it in for a lube job. It might quiet down the film advance a bit if the motor and gears are dry on lubrication...

I've got the opposite problem with my PZ-1p. I can't hear the film advance at all. The shutter and mirror is that loud...

The SF-1 has the best of both worlds. Loud, loud, loud.

You got that right. In June I was at a wedding, and while everybody had these silent little point and shoots, there's me and my SF-1. You KNEW that a picture was being taken. I then lucked into a nice SF-1n and then a PZ-1p.

Update

My son was all smiles when he got the camera out of the bag and he said "dad we are going out taking pictures on Sunday....right?" So I think he is into this photography thing a little bit.

Try using the soft case for the camera. For my ZX-M I picked up an Fg case and an Fk case for $2 each. They both provide a surprising amount of sound dampening when the body case is on. It muffles the high frequencies pretty well, which seem to be loudest on the ZX-M.

a good solution might be a C*&^n Eos 30 - the shutter and film advance is very very quiet indeed!
