PZ-20 giving Inappropriate Lens warning with Promaster AF 28-200/F3.8-5.6 lens

I tried out my new-to-me Pentax PZ-20 yesterday with my new-to-me Promaster 28-200/3.8-5.6 AF lens (S/N 001908) and noticed that at focal lengths shorter than about 135mm the camera gives me an "inappropriate lens warning" with the built-in flash. This lens seems to be bigger around than my 35-70 lens but about the same length physically. Any ideas why the 28-200 would cause the camera to give an inappropriate lens warning with the built-in flash where the 35-70 would not? The manual over at cameramanuals.org says that an inappropriate lens warning is given for lenses with focal lengths shorter than 28mm, which this one is not.

Thanks,
ME Super

Maybe the warning starts at <= 28mm, not necessarily <28mm? The flash will still fire though, right?

That's what's weird. The manual says it will give the warning with lenses shorter than 28mm. However with this particular lens, which is a 28-200, the flash warning starts with focal lengths < 135mm. It does not do this with a 35-70 manual focus lens attached (but the 35-70 aperture blades don't stop down like they should they've got something on them). I will know for sure when I get this roll of film developed as several shots were with the built-in flash at focal lengths less than 135mm.
