Kris, I've just seen that 7dayshop.com are doing 5 rolls for £17.99, which works out at £3.60 a roll which I think is very good. Its only dated July 2012 but the site reckons its the last of the UK stock. I've just ordered some and I'm pretty sure it will sell out really quick at that price.

No chance. Kodachrome required its own chemicals and equipment to develop and that has all gone the way of the junkyard now. I could see some of the standard process type films being reintroduced if there was deemed to be sufficient demand (but don't hold your breath) but I'm afraid Kodachrome is definitely R.I.P.

Kodak Ektachrome E100G is the closest slide film that I have used to Kodachrome.
I can use the same profile in Silverfast for scanning. Highly recomended.

I've had very good results with Ektar and recommend it highly. It does seem a bit fussy about development so I send it to a good quality lab.

I always preferred slide film (Kodachrome 25 as 64 had too much contrast) back in the 80s. These days all is scanned to digital, so color negative film makes sense. I've had nice results from Ektar and Portra. I prefer Portra, as it seems more natural; but most people want the "pop" factor of too bright colors.

If Kodak is now more serious about film, they should introduce more new film derived from their motion picture Vision 3 technology. That stuff has superb DR, latitude and high ISO. More than we are getting from the current crop of still photography film from examples I've seen. And while we're at it, why don't they get [back] into the scanning business. Make high quality film scanners that don't cost as much as a CAR!!

how different is Ektar from Portra? I'm an avid Portra user, actually a bit of a fanatic to be honest. but I've never used Ektar. both seem to claim the finest grain, so which one is the better film? I really love the colours of Portra.

Portra and Ektar are two different formulas for different use. Portra is more neutral with a very wide latitude while Ektar is more contrasty and the most grainless C41 today.
