Hi all,

After having the lithium batteries died on me with ME Super, I got myself ME Winder II which uses AA batteries. However this being my first winder, I am not too sure about some of the buttons/switches on the winder itself. I have found a copy of the user manual from User's Guides, Owner's Manuals and Operational Instructions but it is badly scanned and I am having trouble reading the diagrams. So I am just wondering if someone has got a copy of the manual that's more legible or if someone is kind enough to run me thru it?

Firstly, thanks for your help.

I think I got most of the stuff worked out by trial and error last night. The only thing I am not too sure of is do I need to have battery in the camera body when I am using the winder? The reason I am asking is because my camera doesn't seem to be giving me LED exposure readout in the viewfinder anymore.

The Winder II does not supply power to the camera body, so, yes, you have to have a suitable battery in the camera body even with the Winder II attached.

Both work independently.

Batteries in the winder is for winding the film ONLY.

So much for the idea of using AA instead of lithium in my ME Super!

By the way, does anyone know of any other cheaper source of power for ME Super, other than lithium?

I just found this site the other night. I've linked to the main site but the manual for the ME II is there, awesome site. He also has some old Sears photo catalogs, interesting reading:-).

Why are you using lithium batteries in an ME Super? I just opened up the battery compartment in mine and it contains two "357 Silver Oxide Cell(s)" - no lithium. They power the meter only and will last for years. The "Winder ME II" which fits on the ME Super uses four AA batteries - rechargeable or regular alkaline.

You should still be able to get silver oxide batteries in the proper size... such as the EPX76. What Lithium battery have you been using (model number)? I've found that silver oxide batteries have a pretty long life in camera applications... the trick is to avoid alkaline cells (like the LR44) that have limited life compared to the silver oxide chemistry.

The 357's are very common. Here is displayed a 3 pack that was selling for $3.00 (on Line). They have a shelf life of about 5 years.

Thanks for the replies. I made a mistake with the batteries I am currently using with my ME Super. They are actually just alkalines!! Do'h!! No wonder they were running out so fast!!

I will try to find some of the batteries recommended above.

If it helps and, the Super is the same as the ME, my manual says: Eveready S76E or Mallory MS76H or equivelant.

there is also a single cell 3 volt battery to replace the two "76" cells

It is a 2L76, Had one in my Ricoh XR2s for about 15 years
