Pentax K1000 question

Recently I bought a nice sample of pentax k1000 from ebay, but I see there are three version of this camera, japan, hongkong and chinese

On my camera it says asahi and AOCo on the prism, so it's not probably the chinese one.

On the bottom plate, there's noting there, but it seems that the name of where it's been assembled has been rubbed out.

On the lens, it says made in Taiwan, so can I assumed the the camera is also made in Taiwan?

We have a long thread on K1000 versions and a serial number database. You may want to check it out!

It's closed for new entries (the serial number database has taken over: Pentax K1000 Serial Numbers - Pentax Serial Number Database - PentaxForums.com ) but you should be able to figure out which variant you have from the information in the threads.

BTW, the manufacturing country of the lens has no bearing on where the camera was made.

My made in Japan version has a serial number stamped on the base 1.5cm above the rewind release button- yours does not.

The sticker is much shorter than the sticker residue on your image with the single word JAPAN . Post a couple of images of the Pentaprism and I can compare it to the made in China version I have in the garage.

As I recall the Chinese didn't have the AOCo and all the Japanese had "JAPAN" stamped into the body on the back so I'm going to say Hong Kong assembled, which is identical to the Japan ones unless you are a collector.
