Couldn't resist after receiving DA 40 XS - loved this combo.

Indeed a full-frame combo as it turned out. I expected some vignetting but it worked out beautifully. A few snapshots are here:

Nice and small, the lens is not much bigger than the camera body cap! This make the FA43 look like a telephoto lens!

i can confirm, its a magnificent combo ! limited or xs, pancakes are amazing on these bodies...

also i was surprised when i used the 18-55wr, vigniette from 18 to ~22 but after that tack sharp images across the frame ! i was amazed !

I used to use a DA40 on an *ist film body. That was a fantastic combo!

I sold my Super Program (twin to the Super-A) a few months ago. I hope it is bringing joy to its new owner. This post, at least a little bit, makes me regret the sale.

How lucky you are, to have the opportunity to use modern lenses on your camera! That combo wouldn't work on my LX, but I've always been tempted by getting an M 40 mm since I first saw one, but was in doubt if it would be a bit fiddly to work with those ultra thin focusing and aperture rings. What's your (or others') experience with focusing with it?

Why wouldn't it work on LX? I am discussion with someone about buying his LX, your inputs will help me decide.

It doesn't have Tv mode, so automated aperture won't work. Lenses without aperture ring will have constant aperture when used on Pentaxes pre Program series. I'm not sure though if they will stay wide open or stopped down.

its wierd with the 40lmtd, the DAs are not designed for manual focusing... i think its more wierd with the xs... but the M40 pancake has bigger focusing ring which is made for manual focusing, so i think it'll feel more natural...
The DAs are smaller and lighter though... i wonder how the 35/2.4 will perform...
The DA lenses are like having Auto aperture permanently... so you can use them only in Tv mode...
The LX doesnt support A lenses unfortunately... i think the super A/program is the first with A support...

Manual focusing with DA 40 XS is breeze, very smooth.

smooth all the way with the lmtd too, its the short throw and the small ring that makes it wierd... but i guess its all a matter of taste...

it perform great ! tack sharp from f2.4, color rendition is really "kodak-like" on film : nicely saturated, and real. the short focus throw is the only point that is not so great : 90° only.

If you use it on a K/M body, lens will be stop down at smallest aperture (f22 usually)

You should try the DA*55, and you will say "GEEZ !" @f1.4
