Light seal material in bulk?

I have seven cameras to replace the light seals in, and I'd really rather not spend $10 per camera to get the seals. Does anyone sell these in bulk?

Charles.

Unless you have some sort of jig to help with the cutting, it is probably easier to buy the kits from Jon Goodman.

Edit: By cutting, I was referring to cutting strips from sheet material. Pre-made strips are a lot easier to work with, assuming you know the widths to buy.

They have lengths of 2.5 mm ($6.50) and 1.5 mm ($2.45) that should do a few cameras.

2.5mm for mirror foam and 1.5mm for most everything else?

So far I have only used their 1.5 mm, and only on hinge sides.

I re-did the seals on my very old and battered Nikon FE with thin neoprene strips cut from a old mousepad. Stuck them on with Contact cement. Talk about cheap!!

But it works!

I re seal all my film cameras using self adhesive foam that I buy from a craft shop, over here it's sold as 'Fabfoam' and comes in A4 sheets 1.5mm thick. I also buy sticky back black felt in the same size sheets for doing the ends of the film doors.
The trick is to use a rotary cutter, another craft shop item that once you have it you wonder why you ever used scissors, not a scalpel or a craft knife - they drag the foam no matter how sharp they are. The rotary cutter just cuts, right down to 1mm wide, I cut it thinner than it is thick. Use a good steel rule and one of those plastic cutting mats, it's just so much easier.
Clean the old crap out with cocktail sticks and lighter fuel. I then scrub the channel with my wife's toothbrush. She hasn't noticed the taste of Zippo fuel yet.
Peel the backing off the thin strips as you feed it into the channel, and push it into place with a cocktail stick. Cut to length once it's in place, cut the felts for each end, and the job's done. If you think you can't get the felts in the right position easily, lick the sticky side then position the felt. The moisture will allow it to slide a bit, then it slowly evaporates and sticks fully.

I've done about 10 or 12 cameras like this now, every one is light tight and free of horrible sticky crap, and I have enough foam and felt left for as many again

Jon Goodman is a great guy, talk to him about your problem
he will probably cut you a deal and get you all the material you need for a decent price

He used to sell kits for 4-5 cameras for 10 bucks years ago, but people got "smart" and were reselling his kits

Does anybody know where I can find Jon Goodman's light seal kits?
I've been looking around for one quite awhile and either it's not floating around on the internet or I'm just plain ignorant.

I need one for my ME Super.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Jon deals directly by e-mail only at this point. I have his address, just not on this computer. If nobody chimes in in the next day or so, PM me and I will get it for you.
