I have the 50mm f/2 Nikkor. My lens is a "K" version that was made around 1975-76 and, although not originally an AI lens has the styling of the AI lenses. Mine was converted to AI at some point before I got it. I think this version is superior to the older versions because it focuses to 0.45m rather than 0.6m like the earlier versions.. Anyway I prefer this lens to my 50mm f/1.4 AI-S. The f/2 is just as sharp if not sharper and seems to give images a bit more "pop" or 3D rendering than the f/1.4. (In fact I like it almost as much as my S-M-C Takumars, but that's a whole other comparison…)

Only if you are happy to let it go for $1.

For me, that would not even pay for the wrapping. I see you are in Iowa, but in the UK hardly anyone is buying on Ebay at present (except for K1000s of course) so whatever your starting price, that is what it will probably sell for - if it sells at all. Everything I have sold in the last two years has had only one bid, and for every item I did sell I have ten that did not. It is not just me, I have watched things sitting on Ebay for years, even at 99 pence.

I set my starting price at the least I am prepared to sell it for, which will be at least £10 because that is about the cost to me of selling it, considering wrapping, fuel, and the car-park fee in town by the post office, to say nothing of my time. If the market decides my stuff is worth less than £10, having been unsold on Ebay for six months or more, I reach the point of throwing it away. This now includes certain lenses, flash units, and accessories. That is what my kids will do anyway when I snuff it.

On the up-side, as sole bidder I have bought things at their starting price that were worth far more, from people who have started as low as you say. These left me feeling guilty to be honest, and I'm sure the sellers were disappointed. It is a buyer's market right now.

Why aren’t people buying on the UK eBay site?

Financial uncertainty, high inflation, things have gone a bit Pete Tong with our economy. It was always going to be the case as we adjusted to being outside the EU but covid and the war have complicated things, not just in the UK. What also doesn't help is the fact that many things on eBay are a bit pricy

The pricing seems to be doing that in my limited glances at my favorite charity auction site in the US...

Apart from a few things, prices seem down in the past month or so...

I'll caveat that with a note I don't cast a very wide net generally...

Other weight comparisons

Panasonic G9 + Olympus 12~100mm f4 (FOV = 24~200mm on FF) 2 lb 8 oz

Olympus EM5 mkIII + Panasonic 25mm f1.4 = one lb 10 oz.

And so the switch, at my age, to MFT

A common mistake, especially by strangers we meet who think M is my mother (don't tell her I said that )
