A good way to burn a lot of film fast. Pentax LX with motor wind, Yashica DX 50mm f/1.7, and AF 400T flash. Yes, I know, the cable needs to be attached. Right now I have only the long cable and didn't want to show that pile of cable in the shot.
That’s a beast of a paparazzi rig!

Really love the Minolta typography from that period. All class...

Sunpak DX Series collection

These are from the late film period. The hot-shoe is a plug-in module which dedicates them to a camera brand (there are two loose ones in the photo). All are mint or near, and average cost was about £10 (+ post). One was 99 pence, and the rare and sought-after 555 hammerhead was about £40 (from the USA) and came with the even rarer multi-pin sync cable. The 555 belongs here because it was sold as the G4500DX in some markets. All these all usable straight on a modern digital camera, although their TTL modes will not work.

In the 1990s Sunpak was the main rival to Metz for high-end independent flash units. They say Metz are tougher, but Sunpak are prettier . I have read (unsubstantiated) that Sunpak made Pentax units under contract in the 1980s and there are certainly detailed similarities.

Missing from a complete set is the entry level 24DX (the numbers are their Guide Numbers) and the 28DX which fits narrowly between the 26DX and 30DX here. Also arguably missing is the monster Sunpak 622 (Guide Number 60) which was never sold with "DX" in its name but did use the same module and multi-pin sync cable. I have bid for a few 622s, but the bidding is always too keen.

PS : Hope it's OK to post film era flash in this thread

Yep. I like Sunpak flashes as well. They have been very reliable.

AGFA Ambi-Silette with the humongous 130mm f/4 and the accessory viewfinder needed for it.

Does that camera have a rangefinder under the flip-up flap or is it scale focusing only? VERY difficult to get consistency scale-focusing 130mm @ f4.

There is a RF under the flap, with frame lines for 50-35-90mm. (I wrote a post here)

The 2nd version of the camera extended the RF base to match the 130mm lens which was new.

The 130mm focuses fine with the RF but needs an extra VF to get the framing right.
The extra VF even has a focusing ring

A very interesting design and a few clever innovations. Shading the rangefinder/viewfinder windows by the flap when in the up position would seem like an advantage, but such flaps are vulnerable to damage and slow down picture taking just a tad. Perhaps that is why it was eliminated when they introduced an "improved" model with a longer base rangefinder for the 130mm lens.

CORRECTION: The model II still has the rangefinder/viewfinder cover, but it is hard to see in the mage in the link that titrisol posted.

Supposedly, Leitz determined that 135mm was longest FL that their rangefinder could focus accurately, and consequently that somewhat improbable focal length was a must-have for every lens maker during the film SLR era, with many lens-makers offering two and sometimes three 35mm lenses with different apertures. SFAIK, 135mm lenses have been offered with apertures of f4, f3.5, f2.8, f2.3. f2, f1.8 and f1.4, and both Canon & Nikon have offered a 135mm "soft" or "de-focus" lens.

The flap is there in v2, I just took the picture with the flap open.
The RF and framelines were separated in v2, which gave them 3-4mm extra RF base. The order of framelines was also changed in V2.

It is unfortunate this camera was so short lived and there are only 4 lenses for it.

I was looking at the image of the model II in the link you posted. The raised flap is pointed directly at the viewer so it is not obvious, in fact it's almost invisible in that view. I should have looked more carefully.

I actually like the flap, it is a "step-back and take a breath" indicator.
I also 3d printed lenscaps and the flap reminds me to ensure the caps are not on

Yes it can get stuck, especially in a 65+yr old camera. But given the simplicity of the flap and latch they are easy to maintain and operate.
The behind-the-lens compur and the RF Adjustment are far more painful

That's one thing I don't have on my Kiev 4 is a rangefinder for my 130mm F4 lens. I just guesstimate.

[
KMZ Universal Viewfinder

You can find them from time to time on auctions

I was quite excited to get this camera in the mail yesterday - the 1957 Asahi Pentax AP The first, the original "Pentax" camera, the one that started the long legacy of Pentax 35mm single lens reflex cameras, released to the world the same year as me. I've been looking for a good example to buy for years, and was lucky to get this one at a good price on Ebay. The body was recently refurbished by Mark Hama, seems to be in good working order at all shutter speeds, and came with one of the original lenses released with the camera in 1957, the Takumar 58mm F2.0 preset lens. Taken with my newest Pentax, the K-1 Mark II DSLR (2018) and the HD Pentax-FA 31mm F1.8 Limited lens (2021). I'm looking forward to shooting a test roll with it this weekend.
