How do you find the VF?
Very bright with some purple fringing but far less expensive than others...

That is the real reason they are extinct.
There was a Graflite successor to the Light Saber (which has more outlets) that also attached to the side mounted Kalart Rangefinder. I didn't see one of those for sale yet but it probably costs more. Removing hot flashbulbs and hauling them around may have also contributed to them going extinct.

You got me looking at the prices of those things, yikes. I'll just use a x-sync flash.
I have a co-worker who does Star Wars cosplay.
He has the "Annakin Skywalker light saber" film-grade replica.

I brought in my Graflex flash and he was amazed at how similar they are...

I heard back when I had the Kalart that sometimes to get even more flash power photographers would balance a second flashbulb between the bulb in the socket and the big reflector, and that bulb would go off simultaneously. I never tried it, so the story may be apocryphal.

It's been a long time coming but I finally managed to acquire Minolta's first SLR!

It's in pretty good shape and it seems to be fully functional too.

If you didn't know Minolta's first SLR was the SR-2 and not the SR-1!

Wow, great photo. Now I want to buy a Minolta rangefinder, again.

They look like they might be a bit smaller than my SR-T models. They certainly have a sleeker look.

Very similar in size. The SR's have rounded corners and I really appreciate the clean viewfinder with no hot shoe.

Yup, I found that out when I researched my SR-1. I like my optional light meter, even though I have not actually tried the camera yet. 😅

But which version as there were a few according to Rokkorfiles

Based on that, mine is SR-1e . . .

Man, I have to say, the SR-1 and SR-2 are vastly better looking cameras than the SRTs.
I've always thought those were not attractive at all... I think a lot of it is prism shape...

The Pentax KX, for example, does so much of a better job (to me, anyway) with the implementation of the MLU and DoF preview, and the shutter/winder are better looking, too...

Is the "shelf" on the SR-1 for the external meter?

You're correct that the shelf is for a variety of external meters that were developed. I don't have any myself but there are many posted on the Rokkorfiles site and others.

I've always considered the SRT cameras to be very good-looking, especially in black

Need a matching Rokkor 50/1.4, so it matches that sweet looking K2DMD
