OK, then I'll wait. He did give me a quote though. Said it would be around $200.

I was wondering about shutter speeds though. I should probably dig up a manual somewhere, but if you know off the top of your head, why is 251 coloured differently from other shutter speeds? In fact, "25" are red, and "1" is white.
To use the slow speeds:
1. Cock the shutter, lift and rotate the top dial and choose the 251.
2. Turn the slow speed dial away from 25, and choose whatever speed you want.
3. Fire away.

I normally tend to turn the slow speed dial back to 25 before choosing another speed on the top dial.

Very pretty. That's a neat trick, keeping the horizon level in the viewfinder with the Minolta around your neck and taking a picture of it from above. I don't think I'm that coordinated.

Those waist-level viewfinders are maddening when it comes to getting a level picture!

Two Too Many Exaktas

Yes, I got another one and a waist-level "reflex" finder to match. It is quite pretty and also quite sound mechanically. A few minutes with the WLF was all it took to see the logic behind the Exakta's shape and overall design. Looking down, the camera is cradled under the right hand with focus and aperture done with the fingers on that hand. That leaves the left with the job of managing fast shutter speeds, wind-on, and shutter release. I remain amazed.

Steve

(...now need to repair sticky apertures on BOTH copies of the CZJ Pancolar 50/2 as well as relube all three CZJ Exakta-mount lenses. (The third is a CZJ Flektogon 35/2.8.)...no, I am not going to start buying Zenits next...)

Here's my latest acquisition, a 1939 Automat RF111A. This camera ended up being something of a rescue project. I took a risk buying it hoping it was working, but it was DOA. Had it been working it would have been a good deal, but after spending $250 on repairs, I have probably put more into it than it's worth. I'm a bit of a softy when it comes to old cameras and I can't just leave them unworking. It's now fully functional, with good clean lenses. I also have the original Rolleiflex leather case for this camera. Would like to find a period correct one piece lens cap.
I'm part way through the first roll in it, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the uncoated Tessar can do.

A virtually unused,still-in-the-box K 50 f1.2 !!

Got it from a friend of a friend who had bought it decades ago to use with his MX which he sold not long after, but never used the lens. Forgot he had it until recently found it in his closet, my friend said he knew someone into Pentax film gear (me), I offered him a fair price - now it has a new home where it will get used.

Congratulations!

Interesting the K Series lens is in a much later A Series styled box with an A Series lens cap. Must be one the the last K50/1.2's made before the A50/1.2 came out.

Thanks,

Noticed the cap, but not a expert by any means, thanks for confirming it. Had a extra black "textured" cap to put on it to keep the cap with sticker on it with the box. It's a beautiful lens, it and my K 85 1.8 go well with the K2.

Your K50/1.2 would be from the second "smc PENTAX 1:1.2 50mm" version made from 1977-1984. The A50/1.2 came out in 1984 and the K50/1.2 production would have stopped the same year.

The A Series came out the previous year in 1983, so my guess is that your lens is from 1983/84?

Check the s/n database against your lenses s/n and it's probably one of the newest listed.

Beautiful copy, enjoy!

Phil.

Great information, thanks

Never asked when he bought it, seemed like he'd gotten out of photography a long time ago, probably why it was still sitting in the box. He was happy to get the money, so all turned out good. Now if this rain would stop, I'll go try it out over the 4 day weekend.

Finally broke down, when I found a resonably priced LX.
Arrived and the mirror didn't return, in Automatic, nor on electronically controlled speeds.
Turned out to be the batteries.

It could be an M-Series style box (silver) and cap. I have plenty of those. I don't know what A series stuff came in, also silver? I don't think there ever was an M-Series 1:1.2 so the K-Series version continued to be sold through the M-Series time and of course they would have sold it in the then up-to-date silver boxes.

A nuisance with the 1:1.2 is its 52mm filter size while most of the smaller M-Series lenses standardised on 49mm; inevitable perhaps as the glass had to be bigger. Nice to see one on a K2 though; it was "meant" for the K2. The pair were the top-of-the-range kit option I believe, as shown in the K2 handbook and in advertising brochures.
