And here I thought the list you provided were the camera brands you owned . . .

No such luck. Just a list of what once was. Some are not to be lamented despite their undeserved modern reputations. In their own time some developed reputations as clunkers.

The new (to me) 21/f4 Color Skopar and Voigtlander 21/25 finder on my M2.

I've been wanting to try an M mount 21mm for a while, and was pretty chuffed when this one popped up on local classifieds

Asahi Pentax with Takumar 35mm F4

I have to agree with one of the reviewers of AP/K camera: the early models of the Pentax m42 cameras and lenses have an almost jewel feeling to it.

My recent Pentax SL find. $25 from our local thrift shop. The 28mm lens was an additional $5. Not bad for thirty bucks. I didn't realize initially but the hotshoe mount was something added on by a previous owner, which explains the "Yashica" nomenclature on it. Kind of a smart way to add a hotshoe mount (it clips over the eyepiece).

One more. My Canon QL17 GIII. Purchased it from someone who refurbishes them and had replaced the black leatherette with a custom brown skin. Great little camera that is fun to shoot with.

there are Pentax branded versions of these, I have a couple, they have little spring "ears" that clip under the eye piece to somewhat lock the shoe onto the camera. Worth hunting down if you really want to use flash on camera, or the name clash really gets to you.

It's amazing that a hotshoe was not part of the camera in those days. They did provide plenty of PC sockets though.

Strictly, that is not a hot shoe, it is a cold shoe. Hot shoes have electrical contacts in them to trigger the flash etc. Obviously on that camera a flash unit would need to be connected with a sync lead to one of the PC sockets. A modern flash unit could not be used directly (even with a connecting sync lead) because the metal would short out all its contacts. Some flash units in the past* had a hot foot (ie with a flash trigger contact), and a sync lead that was permanently attached, and when you pulled the free end of the sync lead out of its slot to use it, the hot foot contact cleverly became electrically isolated, becoming a cold foot.

Correct. I'm so used to just generically typing hot-shoe. With no built-in contacts, it would be a cold shoe.

Yes it is. And the glass is very clean inside and out. Even had a UV filter on it.

I have a vivtar version of the 28/2.5 Kino/Kiron made lens. 67mm filter thread - looks similar to yours in shape, not colours. These might be the same lens. If so, it is a nice 28mm; a steal at $5 regardless.

A fellow grad student purchased a Topcon Super D because they included a strip of film that was stated as taken with that particular camera to test and record the actual shutter speeds (when the camera is set to 1/60 the actual speed is 1/68, etc., a chart was provided covering all shutter speeds) I did not ask him at the time, but my thought was "So what use is that to you? Do you think the aperture settings are accurate to 1/5 EV? Do you think you could fiddle a click-stop aperture ring to within 1/5EV? And do you think you could tell the difference, on B&W film, between a negative exposed at exactly 1/60 second @ exactly f8 versus one taken at 1/72 second at f8? But he was happy with his Topcon, and I was happy with my Heiland Pentax (later stolen).
