Spotmatic F meter

I am not sure what is going on. I took my Spotmatic F out for a few shots. The meter needle would sit all the way up. If I adjust the aperture the needle falls to the bottom. Either top or bottom. Then once in a while the meter appeared to work, but then back to the top or the bottom for a while. The batteries are a couple of weeks old. Any ideas?

Sorry. I see another thread discussing similar issues. I will look there. Feel free to respond but I get it if you don't.

If you don't have a manual for your camera, it is available to download (donation appreciated) from the Butkus site:

Asahi Pentax Spotmatic F instruction manual, user manual, free PDF manual, camera manual
