Bellows II + Slide Copier

I have one of these units, and seems to be in good shape
However I can ot find the blanace between the lens and the magnifiction of the slide.
Has anyone instructions for this accesory?
Pentax-manuals only has them for the Bellows 1.

I plan to use it in a DSLR with the 1.5 magnification which means I need a 0.66 magnification... any clues on which lens to use?

Do you have the slide copier K also? Then use the manual at Butkus site -> Pentax auto slide bellows A, Pentax Slide copier A instruction manual, user manual

Seems the last time I tried this, I had no prime lens that would work to make 1:1 copies of slides so I tried a zoom and found a range of about 80mm.

I have the M42 one, with 2 rails instead of 1 just like this:

And yes I do have the slide copier that attaches to it

I have tried the 55/1.8 and the 28/3.5.
28/3.5 the slide copier can not come close enough
55/1.8 gets to 1:1 at the minimum distance of the slide copier so for the DSLR it crops
I also tried a 75mm enlarger lens I had and the slide copier bellows is not long enough

Has any of you tried copying slides with a 35mm lens?

I don't think so. I own the Bellows K and purchased it in preference to the Bellows II.

The whole Pentax Bellows lineup is a bit confusing. Here is what I found:

Bellows I (M42) The first Pentax bellows with one rail
Bellows II Early Model (M42) Has a double rail, this is the one “titrisol” has.
Bellows II Late Model (M42) Has a single X-shaped rail and was introduced in 1974.
Bellows II/Bellows K (K-Mount) Has a single X-shaped rail and was introduced in 1975. (See photo)
Bellows III (K-Mount) This has a slightly longer extension (33mm – 140mm) and a “Front Plate Clamp Knob” instead of a “Lever”. Introduced in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s.

So the late model M42 Bellows II and the Bellows K are the same except for the mount. The Bellows K was also called the Bellows II as per my box.

Well, I guess you have got it down! Truth be told, I wish mine was the Bellows-M. That model has a worm drive for both the top and bottom halves of the rail allowing the bottom half to act as a focus rail.

I don't have any info to help titrisol but if Steve is looking for this one:

-Bellows II Late Model (M42) Has a single X-shaped rail and was introduced in 1974.

I have one and it is mint still in the box etc. Would you like it? I got it thinking that I would use it and never did. I will send it to you for the shipping price if you want it. Just PM me.

On the barter side of things I am looking for a darkroom easel and squeegee if you have any laying around :-)

Yeah the Auto Bellows are labeled a bit differently and more like the lens series.

Thanks a lot!
The instructions were a greatr way to understand how to work this
I got decent results (I think) with a Super-Takumar 55/1.8 and a DSLR (Pentax KX)
Illumination came from a slide-viewer table and even though the pics were crooked I know how to fix them for next time

However I think the edges are "swirly"

The slides are not flat in the mount, margin-to-margin.

I use bellows II and found The 55mm lenses make soft edges, even producing colour fringes on B&W negs. A 50mm macro works well.

I have quite a nice setup for my Minolta SRT101 that is similar to this but to get the most out of it I have to use a flat field lens like my 50mm macro or the Minolta 100mm bellows lens. The Minolta one can be used for still life macro setups as well.

Thanks, I will try a 50mm enlarger lens next. It may get rid of these "swirls"
If tht does not work, it may just be the slide holder is damaged or something

In this pictture I even see like a shadow at the edge of the cliff to the left

Pentax also used to make a slide holder K. You used it with the regular auto extension tubes for copying slides. There is a slot at the end to insert the slide. The recommended lenses were the K55/1.8, K50/1.4 or the K50/4 macro. You would use the lens reversed, so the 52mm reverse adapter was also required. You could do the copying handheld and just point the camera at the sun or a lamp for a light source. The slide end of the holder was opaque.
