Refresh my memory what 35mm film can no longer be processed due to the chemicals not being available? Is it all Kodachrome or a specific era?

Commonly available process for color is C41 (negatives) and E6 (slides). Dwayne's offers other slide processing, but $$$. Kodachrome processing is gone forever.

Sigh...C41 just got less convenient. Walgreen's around here took out the "wet" lab this year.

I send out 95% of my color anyway, even with a Wag's down the street that does C-41. Their machine is turned on so infrequently these days, and with training not where it should be, I don't trust it. It isn't 2003 anymore, where every drug store had a C-41 lab that ran all day with highly trained technicians.

Has anyone tried the eBay film processing services before? I have 8 rolls of exposed film and it would be the most cost effective to get them developed. They're not anything important. Adding in postage and the cost to develop each roll of film makes traditional labs cost prohibitive right now.

dwayne's photo do mail order and price are reasonable, but quality wise I would say nothing fancy but get the job done. Better do you own scan though.

Story goes that here in Germany is only one C-41 lab left which serves all the different drug store outlets. Quality is consistently OK except for chromogenic BW films where the prints tent to have a magenta hue.
Standard BW I process myself using Kodak's trusty XTOL

C-41 is easy to process at home if you use the Tetenal kit (or the Unicolor kit, I think). Keep the chemicals at 102F, and it's pretty bulletproof. It's about $1 per 36 exposure roll vs. $8-$10 locally here in Austin. I don't think it's as fun as developing B&W, but once you try it, I think many people would be swayed that it's well worth the minimal trouble. I like to think my processing is superior to the local drug stores'.
