Someone down under in Oz has a 1958 Pentax K for sale with a starting bid of AU 500.00. Nice camera but the shipping to the US shows as AU 100,000. I don't think I want it that bad. LOL

"If you're reading this ad, then you'll already know what you're looking at. If you don't, then it's best you go elsewhere."

Lots of attitude. Nice old camera for a collector but not anywhere near this price, forget the stupid shipping.

"Q: Please confirm that shipping to the USA is what you have listed, 100,000.00 AU? I'm guessing this is why there are no bids and/or you misplaced the decimal point.

A: Hi, I had to add a figure to the Postage field when creating the listing so don't be alarmed! If you were to win the item, you could specify the carrier and insurance or I could research options. Shipment would purely be "at cost". It's listed at the bottom of the description (should've made it larger!)."

At least he was willing to ship to the US. Beats the usual "Will only ship to the US."

Price is way overblown, especially since the lens is not correct standard lens for that body and its dented, etc. I have one of these in much better condition - near mint both cosmetically and mechanically - and would let it go (in theory) with the correct standard lens for half that price, shipping included...

The auction lens is a Auto-Takumar 3.5/35mm, and was introduced in 1959. It was never a standard or original lens for the "K" body. The standard lenses was the beautiful Auto Takumar 55mm f/1.8, "Zebra" model. My portrait of that lens entitled "Sunny 16"

I do not think there were any other standard lenses, except that there was a very, very rare Auto Takumar 55mm f/1.9, "Zebra" model that was sold with the Sears rebadged "K" that was called the "Tower 29."

There was an Auto-Takumar 55mm f/2 that came out in 1958, and this might have been a standard lens in the form of a less expensive alternative to the 55mm f/1.8. It was not a "Zebra" lens. It was sold as a standard lens on the S2/H2 cameras so I have my doubts that it really was a standard K lens.

woof!
