Use the distance scale on the lens, perhaps in conjunction with a laser measuring device. I imagine that after a while your skill at estimating distances would become fairly well developed. Not as quick or easy as using a viewfinder, but it will work.

Just for clarity, I should probably point out that I still can see well enough to focus, it's just that the less-than-ideal conditions (lower light, wide open, having to focus quickly, etc.) give me more fits than they used to.

Hyperfocal is a tool I use in some situations, but not all.

Thanks for the input!

I bough a magnifying eye piece which helped with the nose and glasses. But also have the diopter adjustment all the way to the right. I do find myself taking my glasses off when I really need to get the framing right and need to see the numbers in the view finder.
Unfortunately the focus screen in the K-30 is no where as useful as the one in the K1000.

I've never used the AF bodies. The focus confirmation works with MF lenses?.
Focus confirmation works well on the two I own, Pentax ME-F and MZ-3 bodies.
FWIW both have focusing screens with conventional (manual) focusing aids.
The ME-F comes that way and I had Eric install a ZX-M screen in my MZ-3.

I've looked for the diopter eyepieces for the K bodies to no avail.
They are the same as for the Asahi M-42 bodies and very hard to find.
