UK film processing

Hi,

Can anyone in the UK recommend where I can get colour film processed and scanned to CD to give decent size files (e.g. to allow printing at large size)

How to Shoot Film Digitally

Olympus Trip 35

The pages above talk about shooting 35mm film and getting them scanned and being able to compete with a good DSLR.

But where I have got my photos scanned (a couple of places - one a Kodak shop) the files are small, and soon loose resolution - nowhere near the files I get from a DSLR. Simply become pixelated much much earlier.

I assume they just need to be scanned with a better scanner/higher resolution.

Can anyone recommend where I can get this done - at an affordable price.

I don't use film very often, but I have a couple of photos I thought I might get printed on canvas but it just isn't possible with the current file size.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

I usually use DSCL for film processing and also for printing my digital shots: http://www.dscolourlabs.co.uk/film_neg_services.cfm

If you're going to start using film more frequently, you'll save yourself money in the long run by buying a decent scanner and doing it yourself.

Phil Kneen, an excellent photographer whose blog I follow, uses Peak Imaging. I only see the results on the blog but the colour looks amazing and he seems to like them.

Hi

Find some one local with a scanner donate a pack of larger or similar bribe...

But my cheap 6mpixel 10.0 £ remaindered toy scanner does a fair job...

I use boots because it's ubiquitous, the scans aren't that big but the service is quick and quality decent.

I've had mine processed at AG Photolab, though have access to an Epson V700 which I use for scanning. They're reasonably priced and have a quick turnaround, despite warning that it can take up to a month.

I'll be posting up some slides at some point that they processed.

Thanks everyone. I don't use film very much, so buying my own scanner wouldn't be worthwhile, I don't think.

I'll have a look at some of the ones suggested here.

Thanks
