Camera & Lens arrived today

I got this K1000 and this Vivitar Series 1 28-90mm f2.8-3.5 Macro lens. Got them on fleabay last month for 45 dollars, I figured the lens was worth that. What is the best film for the K1000? ISO
Here are a couple of pictures of the stuff.

Just buy whatever cheap color negative film comes handy for the first roll, which will pretty much be a test roll anyway.

I usually shoot ISO200 film in my 35mm film cameras, but that is largely because I can buy that in convenient bricks of 10 rolls, while the 100 and 400 are sold that way.

You might want to shoot 400 to keep your shutter speeds up (to compensate for no SR), but remember that on a sunny day that means you won't be able to get your aperture wider than about f11 (since the shutter speed will be at the upper limits of 1/1000 already).

Amazing how we have to do that as we get older. I once photographed Harry Chapin in concert at 1/15 sec with ASA 160 film. It was low light for mood and no follow spot. I don't remember what the f stop was but the 11X14 showed no hint of blur. Now I'm lucky if I can hold it steady at 1/60 sec with a 50mm lens. LOL Of course if I cut the caffeine intake it might help. But Mike's right. Higher speed to keep them sharp. Of course on a sunny day, ASA 200 should work if you want to stop down more than f11 for DOF.

I didn't think of that, I may have trouble holding the camera still also. I haven't shot with a film camera in over 10 years and I'm a X drinker, smoker & everything else.....lol

I like to shoot Ilford 400 XP2. I like the grain, I like the contrast, and I like that a one hour photo can develop it for me. I like that the negative is not coloured (like Kodak is orange).

For me there is alot to like.

Great ebay score by the way. Everyone should have a K1000. Don't let those KX lovers look down on you

Just remember, if it's something you're composing, elbows in to the side and breathing like shooting a rifle. Deep breath, let half of it out, hold it and shoot. If it's an action shot, well good luck. LOL

And as far as the smoking goes, think of this. I quit last year and on my one year anniversary of quitting, I was able to spend all the money I would have spent on cigarettes in a year for a K100D Super. Yep, I had been smoking away a new Pentax every year for 40 years.
