Yellow-green is the "classical portrait" filter.

Yellow green also lightens foliage and darkens blue skies.
IMO yellow green is the universal filter for black and white.

Not pure yellow? Never used yellow. Only orange and red. And a kr85 warming filter

Yellow is my universal filter. It is only a one-stop penalty and adds contrast to many scenes that would otherwise render colors of similar tones.

That's how my Pentax YG (yellow-green) filter was advertised - as portrait filter. The green part in the yellow-green is to aid contrast with red/pink lipstick.
