No, it is totally removable - I pulled it out yesterday to inspect it. You have to unscrew two small screws and the whole assembly comes off. Unfortunately there are no camera repair people left in my country to speak of. They guy I sent my Me Super to returned it more broken than it initially was I'll have to do it myself but like i said, I'd rather just replace it if it's compatible.

Good luck. It is likely that the ME F uses the same focus screen (part # L2). As noted above, take care that the screen is oriented properly during the swap. There is no reference tab. For the benefit of readers unfamiliar with the ME, MG, and ME Super bodies, removing the focus screen requires a partial tear-down with removal of the top cover, pentaprism, meter, and viewfinder display assemblies. The two small screws are part of that process.

To be clear - on the MEF and the Program A (I have one of those as well) you just need to unscrew the two tiny screws under the mirror damper and that's it. No disassembly of the top cover is required. Unfortunately on the Me Super, Me and probably the MG this is not the case as there are no screws.

Thanks for the clarification. There are two screws on the ME, ME Super, and MG as well, but they are not exposed without disassembly. I am surprised that the ME F has the same mirror box/prism set up as the A-series bodies. You learn something new every day!

How I wish they'd made that lens in a manual-focus version too - 35-70 and constant f/2.8 (as opposed to 3.5-4.5 or 3.5-5.6) would be pretty good to have on a film camera. Then again, I guess they were hoping for runaway success and not making too many more manual-focus lenses after that...

I agree, a Pentax K or M 35-70mm f/2.8 constant aperture lens would have been nice to have.
I do own such a lens, but it's a third party K-mount model.
