LOL at the interviewer's comment when the Kodak guy said that:

"You just broke the internet."

Of course if they do bring it back, the photographer who went down in history as the man who shot the last roll ever made will lose that status...

You've got to admit, though, it's better than "NO, NEVER, EVER."

My guess is you'll see Kodachrome 64ASA on the shelves before a Pentax DSLR gets the aperture arm back.

Now that would be a dream come true, both Ektachrome & Kodachrome both available in the market again.

Still I'm a happy camper if it's just Ektachrome that's available again.

Phil.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few . . .

Economies of scale. This ain't the old days of 1,000s rolls per day sales that would be required to justify resuscitating kodachrome.

I'm sure that was the requirement using the equipment and process they had. But they may be able to create a boutique model with smaller scale and equipment and still satisfy the requirements.

The worldwide market for slide films (all brands) is probably 10s of rolls/day... Apart from whatever diminishing nostalgic appeal, there really isn't any practical value-add for slide film over numerous, arguably superior technologies. Ektachrome is a relatively safe bet (and it will be interesting to see if it isn't some rebadged, existing stock), because there are a lot of labs still taking in E-6, and do-it-yourself chemicals out there.

And just as you can speculate negatively, we can speculate positively.

I'll believe it when I see it. There's a bit more to Kodachrome than Ektachrome which i guess is why they plan on doing the latter first. Mentioning K like this may just be a publicity stunt (worked) but they might be just floating it to gauge reaction. If I was the company that owned the Kodak brand I'd be looking to see how I could exploit that brand. K64 might be a loss leader. There might be sufficient commercial demand - who knows. I'm guessing Kodak will wait to see what the sustained demand for Ektachrome is first.

I can see E-6. The chemicals are still being made and there are plenty of people still processing it. But the K-14 infrastructure is all gone. It has been processed by hand, but it is difficult and expensive...
