LX Sticky Mirror

I've found some threads talking about LX sticky mirror which suggests the mirror gets stuck down delaying it moving up, also the usual foam dampers that are a pain on any Pentax when they get old.

On this one taht doesnt seem to be the issue, but the mirror does get stuck up, there seems to be no delay in it going up in the first instance. This only happens on shutter speeds of 60 and below except B is OK. X, 125 and speeds above that all fire OK.

It is consistent every time and once it's stuck, moving the shutter dial to X, 125 or any faster speed , or B brings the mirror down again.

Does this indicate a more serious problem ?

On the LX speeds above 1/60 are mechanically operated...ie you dont need batteries. 1/60 and below they are electronically controlled and batteries are needed. The mirror locking in the up position is a feature , mentioned in the manual to tell you to replace the batteries.

Thanks, all speeds working now ! It seems to be in good order apart from the mirror being off focus which I think is to do with the deteriation of the mirror rests. Thanks for the manual link, that should be useful !

My LX has sticky mirror...i press the shutter button and have to keep the camera still while the mirror frees itself from the rests. I imagine your one had work done to solve that issue and you have discovered one of the drawbacks !

It's only just arrived ! :-) It's not sticking as such but the associated alignment seems to be a problem. I am not sure if there isn't something amiss with the mirror or if it is suppsed to be like that , it has some sort of flap underneath that opens up I think to pass light through the mirror, but there is some backwards and forwards play on th emirror just as it it almost in down position. also I am not sure if it looks like the mirror is slotted in properly. I am not sure, I wish I has another one to compare with and see what they are supposed to look like.

I understand that, but the previous owner may have attempted to repair the sticky mirror and now it is not properly aligned. There are two rubber stops for the mirror to rest on when in the down position. They are not identical.

You can do a google search for the repair tips so you can understand what might have been done to it, and try and correct it yourself. Or just send it to a specialist.

Oh yes I see what you mean. I have found some discussions and pics of the stoppers after the bits are missing, I''d love to see some of how they are supposed to be just for reference, and of how the missor is supposed to look sitting on the frame, maybe it's OK but it just doesnt look right.

On the stoppers, I understand the left one is a block but should there be an O ring over the stud on the right ?
