Mir-1b m42 on spotmatic f

Hello everyone,

Hope this post is in the right place

I recently bought spotmatic f to pair without my grandpa's old lenses. One of the lenses is a mir-1b 35mm with m42 thread. It fits onto the body but I read somewhere that because this lenses rear element retracts into the body when focusing towards infinity, the shutter mirror can hit it and break. My question is does anyone know about that issue and also can I somehow manually slowly open the mirror with the lens on and see if two make contact?

Thanks for the help!

I've never heard of a mirror breaking on an SLR, but I have M42 lenses that go too far into the mirror box on my (Spotmatic) SP1000, and the mirror can't actually retract.

Thanks, I will try to read into it some more. I also don't get the auto mode. I think when I take a photo wide open (step down switch in down position) but with the ring at i.e. f/5.6, the camera doesn't close the aperture after the shutter is pressed. I will record a video in slow motion later on to check. I can still push the aperture preview lever up and take a photo with the aperture that I want. It's just that the auto doesn't work.
