Auto 110 SLR Not Advancing. (Advance lever works)

Hello all!

I am a new member, and I'm excited to be on the forum, and I'm sorry my first post is about troubleshooting.

So, my dad got me an auto 110 for my birthday and I'm excited to get it fired up, but I have a problem... Everything seems to work, but my film won't advance! The advance lever works, but the little gear that I assume actually advances the film either won't move, or only moves a little bit (1/8-1/4 rotation).

Details
Film: Lomography tiger
Batteries: functional but of unknown age
Camera: auto 110 sn: 1140991

The camera was an eBay purchase and appears to be in good shape, the shutter works, metering seems good, and the LED's in the viewfinder function properly.

I'm pretty familiar with SLRs in general so I'm not afraid to try and fix it if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

-Jeff

p.s. sorry if the formatting is off this was written on my phone.

The 110 requires two advances per frame, in case that helps.

The issue I am most familiar with regarding the Pentax 110 series is the broken battery cover on the winder.

Did you try two strokes to wind as Tim suggested? I don’t know if the batteries make a difference but fresh ones couldn’t hurt.

If that doesn’t help you can pick up a “new” one on EBay for under $50.

BTW, the battery cover on my winder is not broken! I also am afraid to use it because it probably will break if I do.

Yea, I've tried the two strokes. I think the problem is the gear/spring combo that actually interfaces with the cartridge. When it encounters any resistance it just spins freely.

I’m sorry about your issues with the Auto 110. I was using mine on the NYC subway today to see how well it’ll work in low light.

I got the amber low light warning and the exposure times were in the 1/8 to 1/4 sec range but I’m optimistic that I may get some interesting images.

The Auto 110 always fascinated me back in the day. If they are going cheap, I should pick up a small kit just for fun.
