T-Max P3200 is back!

From the press release:

Kodak Alaris Revives KODAK PROFESSIONAL T-MAX P3200 Film / TMZ

Multi-Speed B&W Film to be Available in March, 2018

ROCHESTER, N.Y. February 23, 2018 – Kodak Alaris announced today that it is bringing back KODAK PROFESSIONAL T-MAX P3200 Film / TMZ, a multi-speed panchromatic black-and-white negative film. While the nominal film speed of P3200 TMZ is ISO 800, the “P” means it’s designed to be push processed to EI 3200 or higher. This film excels when shooting in low light or when capturing fast action. It is ideally suited for handheld street scene photography, night work, and in dimly lit venues where you can’t use flash.

“It’s no secret that we’ve been looking for opportunities to expand our portfolio” said Dennis Olbrich, President – Kodak Alaris Paper, Photo Chemicals and Film. “Darkroom photography is making a comeback, and B&W Film sales are clearly on a positive trajectory. Given these very encouraging market trends, we believe P3200 TMZ will be a great addition to our lineup”.

Kodak Alaris plans to offer KODAK PROFESSIONAL T-MAX P3200 Film in 135-36x format. Shipments to Distributors and Stockhouse dealers will begin in March in the U.S., with other regions around the world following shortly thereafter.

I never tried P3200, but it will be nice to have an option other than Delta to choose from when shooting low light. Now if only they'd finally get Ektachrome out to the shops as announced last year.

It's always great to see another film option...even if it is just bringing back a discontinued one.

Kodak (Alaris) has had a fairly good track record of resurrecting films. I'll be excited to try Ektachrome when it's properly relaunched.

Now if only Fujifilm could see that keeping / bringing back films could be a good thing.

I used to use TMZ a lot for indoor photography in available light, before digital filled that gap. For B&W I basically only used 100 (for very low grain) and 3200 (for textured grain).

This article has a picture of the original test rolls of Tmax 3200 from 1988:

Great news! Many of us prefer Tmax 3200 over Delta 3200.

Great news indeed. I check for Ektachrome about once a week, but there hasn't been anything new since November...

I've only used Fuji Neopan 1600 which was discontinued. It'll be interesting to have another high-speed BW film to try.

I'm actually wondering if the way they handled the relaunch of Ektachrome is the reason they waited until P3200 was almost ready to ship before announcing it.

My understanding was that they basically had to re-create part of the chemistry, similar to the relaunch of Velvia.

I remember reading this too. Something about meeting environmental regulations etc.

yes. Let's just hope that having to receive a pile of emails from various born-again film hipsters asking when Ektachrome is going to be available did not push them over the edge to abandon film altogether. I guess I am a born-again film... photographer. Not really a hipster

Another film I'll probably never use. I am disappointed.
Where's the new Ektachrome? Where's their Plus-X replacement?

Chris

P.S. - The correct answer to question #2 is not "T-Max 100"!

I'm always glad to see a new option, especially one where there's very little choice in the market. I have very rarely used films that fast but have been thinking that it's time I stopped being lazy in low light and just using the (admittedly fantastic) digital option of X-M1 + 35/1.4 and made the effort to use high-speed film.

Wonderful...A film is resurrected, and just my luck it's one I never had a use for.

Bring back BW400CN in 35mm and 120 and i'll be impressed. The contrast of Ilford XP2 is flatter than graphene.
