Pentax SV brown leather red logo

Hi all.

I have been trying to find information on one of my cameras. I'd like to know the rarity of the item and the approximate value.
The camera is a Pentax SV with original brown leather trim and the Asahi logo is in red paint.
The camera is in full working condition - excellent condition and has the brown leather case as well as the clip-on light meter.

Anyone heard of or have seen anything similar or can help out with pricing this for sale?

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

This sort of combination is not unusual on eBay. Such cameras are usually billed as "extremely rare special edition red emblem" or something similar. Most likely, the original thin pebble-grain black covering was spoiled by moisture or mold and has been replaced with brown leather from someplace like Aki-Asahi (great people to do business with). Changing the emblem to red is easily done with a lacquer pencil or pen.

In the outside chance that the trim is genuine from the factory, it would indeed be rare. I have never seen or heard of such a thing.

The leather could also be from here: CameraLeather.com Custom camera leather and leatherette It looks like that site is coming back from a hiatus (a rather long one, by the looks of it!).

All the camera links still go to a 404 Error page

Interesting. There is an Austrian guy offering a SV on Ebay for quite a while, with the Pentax inscription in red paint: Pentax Asahi SV 35mm Film camera body | eBay I thought that this a custom mod, but apparently it is not the only one.

Huh. Not a single link to an actual camera works for me - just the Home Page

My apologies - I should have noticed your use of the plural.

Thanks for the photos!

Yes, that is definitely an after-market or user-cut covering material. It is doubtful that the lettering is factory, but hard to determine without magnification.

Regardless, a working SV is a joy to shoot with. I hope you get good use out of your camera.
