what have I missed to 40 years ? K1000 to ME Super

Since I was 16 all I have really known was the K1000. Ive had several and never was interested in using anything else.

However the other day I scored a ME Super with 4 lenses in mint condition at an auction for $25. Rather than re-donating it to someone or selling it on Etsy I started looking at it closer.
I decided to read through the User Manual , popped in a couple batteries...…..And now Im completely hooked !

Over the last decade Ive probably had no less than 10 of them go through my hands in quest of various lenses , but never bothered to try one or even give it 2 seconds thought.....Wow....What have I been missing ?

Now Im relegating my (2) K1000 keepers to the storage drawer , selling the 2 others I have , and looking for a second ME Super !

If you like the ME Super then I would suggest a "Super A" next.

Yep same here in Canada and all of North America.

I have both the Super A & Program, the Super A is all black so looks a bit more stylish to me. Also mine is a special "1983 European Camera" of the edition, so a little extra bling...

Yep. IIRC they were a transition camera just before the move to HK. Apparently Pentax shipped a stock of parts to HK and some HK K1000SE’s had black leatherette also. There’s a serial number table that actually seems authoritative around here somewhere but I can’t find it.

I posted on here somewhere about this very thing. The Black Diamond grip is what throws everyone off. This was the camera that I bought in high school about 1981 IIRC. Mine was purchased directly through the photography class and all the regular K1000's were gone....This little ugly thing was all that was left and I ended up with it...….lol I have a very fond Soft Spot in my heart for it.
I ran into one years later and Sold it on Ebay for $200 !
The Black diamond SE version was actually the First SE models made before the standard Leatherette ones came out in Appx 1978......I got one of the 2500 New ones that probably was a leftover item about 1981 from some dealer my HS dealt with out of New York.
Serial # were pre 780xxx or so.
