And you thought sensor dust and debris was only on digital...

Hello,

Just got a roll back and to my surprise, a few of the images are showing this:

Similar locations in all frames.
What the.... !!!!!
So I take a look at the camera again. Open the shutter in bulb a sure enough, a freaking HAIR is sticking in the shutter. Take it out, repeated test, another hair showed up! Did this camera belong to a barber or something? More cleaning and a third one came out.
Geez! I did not notice any of that in the dry runs. I've never seen that before.
This is easily cloned out in the scan.
So there you have it. And you thought only digital got sensor dirt

Thanks,

That's wild. Is there something in the camera that is deteriorating?

I for one have never thought that was the case . . .

You're right that spotting an image on-screen is much simpler then spotting a print. But some are really challenging like this frame of Kodak 160VC color negative I sent to Fuji Professional to have a 20" X 30" poster optically printed back when. The poster came out great but it wasn't until many years later when I scanned this frame that I saw how they mishandled it during the process.

Looks like they scuffed it around the floor. Is this why PhotoMuppet franchises like digital for their untrained staff?

The staff were just before their time?

I found a hair in the screen of my MX once...so only showing up in the viewfinder, but I guess could have made its way anywhere! Looked like a hair out of a paint brush though - no idea how it got in there!

This one has plenty of little white dots from dust

And how about drying stains (left and right edges of the frame)

If these imperfections are bothersome, I take a mixed approach of trying to clean the negative and scanner, but also cloning digitally...

I think I found the worst in my collection of scans: dusty scanner sensor that added the stripe at the top, possible uneven development, and a little bit of dust (though it was snowing so some are actually snowflakes)

Very funny. Have you shot another role since? I'd be crossing my fingers until a few cleans ones came out.

Not yet but I did a few bulb dry tests and it seems to be fine now.

Thanks,

Check out this bad boy! I can only assume the fluff was on the film itself and has since disappeared into the body or spool.

You did clean the negative before printing, right? That's big enough you could name it.

Haha! I name it FlaviusFluff, or Cygnus-X-B253 to give it the official designation.

I MAY not have cleaned anything before anything 😬
