Pz1p with DFA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ?

So I have started playing with Film again and broke out my Pz1p's to do this.. I know the forums Lens Review says they are compatible but has anyone here used film camera's with the DFA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6

HD Pentax-D FA zoom lenses are optimized for use with Pentax Digital SLRs. They cover the 24x36mm full frame image circle, but can also be used with cameras with an APS-C size sensor. They can be used on such Pentax film cameras that have provision for setting the aperture from the camera body.
  • Auto-focus (built-in AF motor, no support for screw drive)
  • Auto-aperture (no aperture ring)
  • Film & Digital
Thanks,

al

according to this

The Pentax Camera Lens Compatibility Chart

it appears it would work but only manual focus

and this also indicates the same

QuoteQuote:
Conclusion
A, F, FA and D FA lenses work on all Pentax bayonet cameras ever produced. Exceptions: 1) A lenses do not work on the MZ-60/ZX-60, 2) the D FA 100mm F2.8 WR and newer D FA lenses have no aperture ring which restricts their use on some film cameras.

FA J, DA and DA L lenses only work on cameras which can control the aperture (since these lenses have no aperture ring). DA lenses should only be used on cameras with an APS-C sized sensor (16 x 24 mm) with the exception of the DA*200mm F2.8, DA*300mm F4, and DA 560mm F5.6, which can also be used on 24 x 36mm full-frame cameras.

DA lenses having the KAF4 mount only works on cameras which can control the aperture electronically (K-50, K-S1, K-3 and newer).

M and K lenses work on all cameras except the MZ/ZX-30, MZ/ZX-50 and MZ/ZX-6. They work with limitations on the *ist film camera. They work with stop-down metering on the *ist D series and K series digital SLRs provided that a custom function is set appropriately.

Hi.

I have a MZ6, though I haven't used it for ages, I am somewhat confused why it shouldn't work with M and K lenses? The link you provided doesn't give any info on this. (the compatibility chart only rules the MZ 30 out)

Thanks, Gerard

Per the chart it looks like the mz6 should work. Those other bodies will simply refuse to shoot (for no good reason beyond being cheaper).

Thanks Allen, Guess I will give it a try and see. I was concerned I might screw up the electronics on the lens so thought I'd ask first.

All Lenses with screw drive AF, should work, all lenses with lens internal AF motor (DC, SDM, HSM, ...) would need to be focused manually. My experience. See also here: Autofocus of DSLR Lenses on Pentax Film Bodies - PentaxForums.com. I have a Z1, it can drive the aperture up to KAF3. For K and M lenses the usual procedure.

Some later film bodies, despite ostensibly having compatible mounts, will refuse to shoot any lens that isn't screw-drive AF, even if it's in manual focus mode. They date from the days of the race to the bottom to manufacture the absolute cheapest possible SLR camera and I get the impression that Pentax were bottom of the pile then. Not their finest hour.

PZ-1p was pre-MZ days so should probably be OK.
