Interesting item...M42 instant film camera

I'm not sure if this belongs here...but it's a film camera that takes m42 thread lenses so... The NONS SL42 is the world's first M42 mount instant film SLR camera - DIY Photography

$179 is a bit more than I'd pay for circular images on Fuji instant film...but if the price dropped or any used available I wouldn't mind playing with one.

Vignetting becomes a feature. Unfortunately there is no adapter from midformat to M42.

On the other side, the next excuse for LAS, you have to find the M42 lens, that fits the format.

Nice idea nevertheless.

If they designed an instax type of camera that takes M42 lenses they should have also put in some effort into solving this problem, projecting onto a bigger area of the slide. It looks interesting but vignetting is just too severe

Making the lens cover a bigger format reduces light. There was an adapter for Nikon F cameras called the "speed magny" that made regular 35mm format lenses cover 3 1/4 X 4 1/4 polaroid film. It was huge and there was a 5 f/stop light loss.

Not bad! I'll wait until they get out of the kickstarter though, I have pledged to a few projects that were fully funded and never received their products

I read somewhere that the camera’s shutter, not the lens image circle, is what drives the vignetting.

The article I read said it was 30mm around, which is pretty small...

Vignetting is a result of lens design; light falls off at the corners
even some wide angle lenses used to vignette a little in 35mm or if you try to use APS-C lenses in 35mm

When you tried to use 35mm lenses in MF cameras (6x6 or higher) the vignetting was pronounced and sometime you had the circle as seen in the promotional pictures

Could it be the shutter? maybe , but I wouldn;t bet on it

My thoughts as well. Instax Mini has an image size of 62mm x 46mm, which is larger than the image produced by a 645 camera. (Approximately 56mm x 41.5mm.) Even if the current small image circle is a result of the shutter, I strongly suspect that at best most m42 lenses are going to vignette heavily on the format.
