Heiland Pentax H1 with Heiland Clip-on Meter Rare?

I have a Heiland Honeywell Pentax H1 with a Heiland clip-on light meter in original box. I have seen many Heiland H1 cameras, but never seen a Heiland light meter before. This unit came in box with lans case, strap, and manual. Check out price on top of box.

The Bank of Canada has an inflation calculator. That $149.50 in 1961, the year the camera was introduced, is equivalent to $1346.06 today. That amount doesn't seem out of line for what a brand new film package might cost today, if one existed. Of course, its features would be more advanced than what they were in those days. An American dollar calculation might be different.

That's a beauty!
The H1 was released in 1961 as the economy sibling of the H3. While the H3 had a top speed of 1/1000, the H1 was "only" 1/500. The H1 also came kitted with a slower lens, the 55mm f2.2 you have there. Of all the S(H) series cameras, the H1 is the least common. The H1a is far more common.
That meter was launched around 1960, but it was changed to a square design a bit later.
What you have is an interesting combo of the most affordable offering of the time plus the external light meter, yet it is the least common.
Interestingly, the top of the line SV is the most common as it was built until 1968.

Thanks,
Ismael

I am by no means an expert, but I love that series. I have made several posts about them. I invite you to check them out. You may find some additional information there.

Not by too much. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' calculator gives between $1299.85 & $1291.19, depending on when in the year it was priced.

It is my understanding that Heiland was purchased by Honeywell so the label would correspond to who the importer was at that moment.

Great to see the original packaging too. The boxes rarely survive.
