Vivitar 2800 external flash stuck on Pentax K1000

Hi Everyone,

So I have a Pentax K1000 camera with a vivitar 2800 external flash that is mounted on top. I am having an issue getting the external flash off the camera body. It looks like the previous owner screwed it on so tight that it cross threaded. Any solutions to getting it off? Thanks everyone!

If you can get a pair of pliers around the ring you should be able to eventually turn or pull it off. Worse comes to worse you might be able to crush the ring to bits with pliers or cut it apart with an X-acto razor saw, hot knife or diagonal cutters.

You might try a rubber pad used for opening jars. Not a Number's solutions are good if you don't care about the flash. I would think the pliers would work. You might try some gentle tapping on the tightening apparatus, it may have some rust or corrosion.

I hope you haven't started crunching, carving, or prying yet. The thumb wheel is reverse threaded and turns right (clockwise) to tighten down on the shoe. To remove, turn it left (counter-clockwise, looking up toward the flash).
